Working with Harvesting Hope: A Solar-Powered Irrigation System in Pignon

In late 2010, I got a call from Mike Gampetro of Harvesting Hope. Mike told me the story of how he had been working to get a donated tractor from his home town of Rockford, Illinois to the village of Pignon, Haiti. Once there, the tractor would begin plowing some rich, fertile farmland that had been recently purchased by Mike's local partner in Haiti, Pastor Jepthe Lucien of Jersualem Baptist Ministries. An integral part of Mike and Jepthe's plan to cultivate that farmland was a plan for an irrigation system to water the crops. A call to Open Door Haiti led Mike to me, and in April 2011 Mike and I traveled together to Pignon to begin this project, which will ultimately include the installation of a solar-powered irrigation system to bring life-giving water to Jepthe's fields in Pignon.
